Walk Western Australia’s Karijini & Ningaloo Reef — 10-Day Small Group Tour
Western Australia is home to some of the most jaw-dropping landscapes on the planet, and this 10-day guided adventure gives you exclusive access to two of its greatest treasures. From the ancient red gorges of Karijini National Park to the world-famous waters of Ningaloo Reef, this is the ultimate WA bucket-list trip — and we’ve partnered with Intrepid Travel to bring it straight to you.
Starting in Paraburdoo and finishing in Exmouth, this fully guided small group tour is built for Australians who are ready to explore their own backyard in a seriously big way. No stressful planning, no logistics headaches — just pure adventure with everything taken care of from day one.
Spend the first half of your journey in Karijini National Park, one of Australia’s most spectacular and underrated destinations. Hike down into ancient gorges, swim in breathtaking hidden rock pools like Kermit’s Pool and Handrail Pool, and tackle the iconic Mt Bruce Summit — the second highest peak in WA. Nights are spent under a canopy of outback stars, including a memorable stay at Cheela Plains outback station where dinner under the desert sky is an experience all on its own.
Then it’s on to Exmouth and the stunning Cape Range National Park, where the Ningaloo Reef — one of the world’s largest fringing coral reefs — sits just steps from shore. Snorkel the dazzling coral gardens at Turquoise Bay, spot turtles nesting at Oyster Stacks, walk the dramatic Charles Knife Canyon, and if the timing is right, tick off the ultimate wildlife experience: swimming with whale sharks.
With groups capped at just 15 travellers, you’ll enjoy an intimate, personalised experience that big bus tours simply can’t match. Your expert guide is with you every step of the way, and most meals are included so all you need to focus on is soaking it all in.
This is a high-intensity tour best suited to fit and active travellers aged 15 and over who are ready to push themselves in some of Australia’s most remote and rewarding terrain.

Head out early to Dales Gorge and start the hike toward Fortescue Falls. The trail takes you down to the gorge floor where Fern Pool sits surrounded by red rocks and thick ferns, with water cascading from above. Pack your swimmers because you’ll want to cool off with a dip in the pool. This is a sacred Banjima site, so take time to appreciate the landscape as you walk around. After you’ve finished at the pool and made your way back up, stop by the Visitor’s Centre to get some context about the park’s geology and history. By late afternoon, head back to camp.

Lace up your hiking boots for a full day ridge walk to Mt Bruce, Western Australia’s second highest peak at 1,235 meters. You’ll tackle gentle strolls, rock scrambles, and steeper climbs with chain support along the way. The payoff is 360-degree views across the Karijini Range that make the effort worthwhile.

Today brings an occasionally challenging walk with four major highlights, including Hancock and Weano Gorges. You’ll wade through pools and streams to reach Junction Pool Lookout, then swim in both Kermit’s Pool and Handrail Pool before heading back to camp for dinner under the stars.

The drive from Cheela Plains to Exmouth takes several hours, but you’ll have stops to stretch your legs and a lunch break along the way. By evening you’ll arrive at Yardie Homestead campsite near Exmouth in time to watch the sun set into the Indian Ocean.

Today you have options depending on what appeals to you. There’s a chance to swim with whale sharks, the world’s largest fish, off Western Australia’s Coral Coast (optional activity). Alternatively, you can take a half-day snorkeling glass bottom boat tour or simply relax at your accommodation.

You’ll spend the day exploring Cape Range National Park with short walks, snorkels, and swims along the coast. Mandu Mandu Gorge lets you follow an ancient riverbed, while Yardie Creek Gorge is where you might spot rock wallabies.
