Perisher is Australia's largest ski resort, located in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales within Kosciuszko National Park. Situated about 240 kilometers southwest of Sydney, Perisher encompasses four interconnected villages - Perisher Valley, Smiggin Holes, Guthega, and Blue Cow - offering the largest skiable terrain in the Southern Hemisphere with over 1,200 hectares of slopes and 47 lifts. The resort operates during the Australian winter season from June to October, featuring terrain suitable for all skill levels from beginner slopes to advanced off-piste areas, plus extensive cross-country skiing trails. Beyond winter sports, Perisher transforms into a mountain biking and hiking destination during summer months, with the scenic Skitube Alpine Railway providing year-round access from Bullocks Flat. The resort holds historical significance as one of Australia's pioneering ski destinations, first developed in the 1950s, and continues to be a premier alpine destination attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually for both winter sports and mountain recreation.
